In this video I will share with you the secret behind winning the most exclusive YouTube Play Button Award... the RGB play button! This center of this elusive play button is illuminated with RGB LEDs and the digital matrix LED display shows the live subscriber and view count. It also features a real time clock to act as a digital time keeping piece.
So how did I win this? I awarded it to myself! I made it, and you can too.
First, download the 3D models along with all of the templates I have provided:
► printables.com/model/243806-rgb-youtube-play-button-award-with-live-subview-co
You will need the following hardware. As an Amazon Associate may I earn from qualifying purchases (at no extra cost to you):
1x WEMOS D1 MINI
► amzn.to/3KmPHSq
1x LOLIN 7 RGB D1 MINI SHIELD
► amzn.to/3dUr2IN
1x MAX7219 8x8 4 in 1 PANEL
► amzn.to/3pOwjnP
► 4x No. 4 x 3/8 Pan Head Thread Forming Screws (Or M3 x 10mm equivalent)
► 4x No. 4 x 3/8 Flat Head Thread Forming Screws (Or M3 x 10mm equivalent)
► 4x No. 4 Flat Washers or M3 Flat Washers
You will also need the following tools:
3D printer to print some parts
► amzn.to/3Kr5JdS
Black 8 x 10 picture frame
► amzn.to/3KovZFS
Hobby Knife
► amzn.to/3Kmi2Zc
► Paper printer
Then get my code here:
► github.com/embracemaking/YoutubePlayButton/blob/main/README.md
As per the video instructions, you will need to visit:
► socialgenius.io
and sign up for an account. Follow the instructions in my YouTube video to see which part of the code you need to copy from their auto-generated code so that their server can fetch your stats with the proper project name.
Big shoutout to HackMakeMod for the original video:

And for the original source code that I forked this from. I've modified their auto generated code from socialgenius.io to use the 4 panel MAX7219 instead of the 8 panel so it can fit in the picture frame. I also modified the code to run the LOLIN RGB shield and changed the formatting of text / numbers to fit the 4 panel matrix.
You can find their original video here:
► youtube.com/watch?v=16gZ2CX7qB4
They also have a nice written guide here with details on installing the required libraries
► hackmakemod.com/blogs/projects/diy-kit-guide-building-your-own-subscription-clock
In addition to the ones listed in their writeup, you will also need the Adafruit NeoPixel library.
Thanks for watching!
