When I travel, I love visiting factories and shops to see how they make things, and on this trip to Egypt, I visited The Nile School For Handmade Carpets, not far from The Step Pyramid in Saqqara. I was given a demonstration by Waleed on how they make the carpets in their gallery. Their carpets are made by weavers who use silk, cotton, or wool. Children are provided training by the school on how to make carpets and when they get older, the net profits from carpet sales are given to them and their families. After the demonstration, I visited the gallery/showroom, where you can see the finished product.
