In 1971, a struggling band that had released two unsuccessful albums suddenly created one of the most important records in hard rock history. That band was Alice Cooper, and the album was Love It to Death.
Celebrating its 55th anniversary, this video tells the full story behind the album that saved the band’s career and helped launch the era of shock rock.
Before this album, Alice Cooper was on the verge of being dropped by their label. Their first two records had failed to make a commercial impact, and the band needed a breakthrough. That breakthrough came when they began working with young producer Bob Ezrin, who pushed the group to tighten their sound and embrace a heavier, more aggressive style.
The result was Love It to Death, a record that transformed the band’s musical identity and introduced the world to one of their most iconic songs, I'm Eighteen. The song captured the confusion and frustration of teenage life and became Alice Cooper’s first major hit.
