Horizon Part 3 Filming Start Announced By Kevin Costner With BTS Photos
Kevin Costner has officially said that filming on Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 3 will begin in June, despite earlier reports suggesting a June start date. The forthcoming Western film starring Kevin Costner is slated to be a vast epic set during the American Civil War, tracing the lives of numerous characters involved in all aspects of the west's expansion, from farmers and settlers to gunslingers and Union troops. Costner is a member of Horizon's renowned cast, which also includes Sam Worthington, Sienna Miller, Danny Huston, Jamie Campbell Bower, and many more. He also co-wrote, directed, and produced the first two films.
Just under a week remains until the first film opens in theaters, and Costner announced on Instagram that filming for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 3 has begun.
As can be seen above, the image has Costner leading a cast of Native actors on the third film's set, which was formerly said to start shooting in the summer of 2024. Along with expressing the dreamlike atmosphere surrounding the first film's impending release, Costner's caption invites viewers to "see what we've put together for you."
Does Costner's Horizon Move Too Quickly?
Early on in the film's development—which had started in the late 1980s but had really gotten going in early 2022—Costner had said Horizon would be divided into four parts, with the original plan being to shoot them all in back-to-back order. This plan finally changed when Warner Bros. decided to move forward with the second movie almost immediately after the first started production. Production on Chapter 2 is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2023. Despite the initial faster turnaround, the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, as well as the necessity for additional finance, caused Horizon Chapter 3 to be delayed.
There is some worry that Costner might be going too quickly with his next Horizon: An American Saga films, despite the fact that his plans are extremely ambitious and the studio's faith in his vision is optimistic for the success of all four pictures. This was especially the case following the first film's Cannes premiere, which received a decidedly mixed review from critics who saw the potential in his plans but also bemoaned the story's sense of unfinished business and the film's somewhat slow pacing.
Some even compared these concerns to those made about Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon films, whose sequel caused the director to reach a new low on Rotten Tomatoes. Although Costner still has plenty of time to consider the criticism of the first film when producing Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 3, the hurried pace of the project may also leave him with little time to consider any objections and make the necessary adjustments. But with only 25 reviews of the first Horizon film out so far and no one having seen the sequel, it will be intriguing to see if Costner can avoid the same mistakes made by other hurried franchises.
