I wanted to write a story for each song on "Sampler Platter," and this one is a special tribute to Takeoff, gone too soon, but I’m grateful for the art he shared with the world while he was here. This was originally a Future song, but the vibe didn't end up working out for the final, so it was scrapped, but I kept the beat.
Speeding up the sample transformed it from a soulful vibe to something that felt almost gospel, so I leaned into that by adding a bass guitar, some guitar lines, and a choir to bring it all together. Quavo was originally on this track, but I couldn’t get the beat to match his vocals, so I swapped in J. Cole instead, and it ended up working perfectly. I also cut the beat out at one point as a moment of silence to give Takeoff space to shine. Honestly, no pun intended, I enjoyed making this song from start to finish.
