Hindus revere the Ganges River, which they call "Mother Ganga." Despite being severely polluted, they flock to the ghats every morning to bathe in the river, make offerings to it, and even drink from it. I took a boat ride on the Ganges at dawn in Varanasi, India, to witness the joy of worshipers at the ghats, many of whom have saved for years to make the trip.
