There's an entire unused machine blockout hidden underneath the Scorpius Trenches in the current Subnautica 2 development content.
In this video, I head below the map near the Creature Nest at the edge of Scorpius and explore what appears to be an abandoned early layout for some of the machinery the developers were prototyping for the new biome.
The blockout contains rough versions of machinery that look closely related to the larger Axum systems now being developed to harvest and process Great Jaw Leviathans into usable resources.
Inside we can see:
๐๏ธ Rough industrial machine layouts
๐ Possible Great Jaw processing equipment
๐ฝ Additional Axum structures
๐ก Strange antenna-like objects similar to Scorpius concept art
๐งฑ Early blockout geometry left underneath the finished terrain
This is especially interesting because newer Scorpius development content already contains Axum facilities, Resource Crushers, Great Jaw harvesting systems, and other machinery built around turning gigantic biological materials into useful crafting resources.
So this hidden area may give us a glimpse at an earlier version of that design process before the developers settled on the layouts we're beginning to see aboveground.
I also take the opportunity to answer another question:
What does Scorpius Trenches actually look like with the fog turned ON?
Most of my developer-area exploration has been done without fog so we can clearly see unfinished terrain and structures.
But with the proper atmosphere restored...
Scorpius becomes MUCH darker.
Visibility drops, huge structures disappear into the distance, and the deep ravines and machinery become far more ominous.
That's probably much closer to the actual mood players will experience when Scorpius eventually becomes a finished playable area.
In this video I'll showcase:
โ Hidden machine blockout under the map
โ Great Jaw processing machinery concepts
โ Additional Axum structures
โ Strange concept-art antenna designs
โ Creature Nest area from underneath
โ Early Scorpius development geometry
โ Scorpius Trenches with fog enabled
โ How dramatically fog changes the atmosphere
โ ๏ธ Everything shown here is unfinished developer content. This blockout appears unused, and its exact purpose, machinery, layout, and relationship to finished Scorpius content can still change or may never appear directly in the final game.
