Start pottying your baby today: godiaperfree.com/go - “Back, back, squat!” 🚽 This is how I teach my toddler to get onto the potty ALL BY HIMSELF.
Potty independence takes practice!
Here’s Cooper practicing what we call the “back, back, squat.”
Turn around.
Back up.
Back up.
SQUAT. 🙌
In this video, I’m helping Cooper practice backing himself up to the potty, squatting down, and sitting on it without me putting him there.
And look at him — he did it himself!
This is one of those little skills that can make such a difference as your child becomes more independent with the potty.
We practice.
We repeat.
We let him figure out where his body needs to go.
And, apparently, we also try VERY hard not to touch the poop. 😂
No need to make it complicated. Give them opportunities to practice the actual movements they need to potty independently.
Back, back, squat.
Good job, buddy!

I’m Andrea Olson, mom of six and author of Go Diaper Free and The Tiny Potty Training Book. I teach parents how to help their babies and toddlers move toward potty independence without making the whole thing more complicated than it needs to be.
Practice the skill. Let them try. And celebrate when they figure it out. 💛
