In this video, I review Hell's Island, one of the standout titles from Imprint Films' Essential Film Noir Collection Volume 6. Directed by legendary noir filmmaker Phil Karlson and starring John Payne, this colourful Caribbean-set thriller blends film noir, adventure, mystery, romance, and treasure-hunt storytelling into one of the most entertaining hidden gems in the collection.
While it may not be as famous as the genre's biggest classics, Hell's Island offers a fascinating twist on traditional noir conventions and delivers exactly the kind of discovery that makes Imprint's Essential Film Noir sets so rewarding.

📖 About the Film
Released in 1955, Hell's Island stars John Payne as Mike Cormack, a former district attorney whose career has fallen apart.
When he's offered a lucrative job recovering a valuable ruby hidden somewhere on a Caribbean island, he sees an opportunity to rebuild his life. Unfortunately, things quickly become far more complicated as he finds himself caught between dangerous criminals, murder, betrayal, and a seductive femme fatale.
As the mystery deepens, Cormack discovers that almost everyone involved has a hidden agenda, and surviving long enough to uncover the truth becomes increasingly difficult.
Unlike many noirs of the period, Hell's Island trades urban shadows for exotic tropical locations, creating a unique atmosphere that helps the film stand apart from its contemporaries.
