Experience the magic, mystery, and drama of John Williams’ legendary Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter in this ultimate virtuoso piano performance.
From its instantly recognizable opening melody to the sweeping orchestral climaxes, I wanted to push Hedwig’s Theme to its limits and bring as much of the original soundtrack as possible to a single piano. The result is a highly virtuosic arrangement that combines the mysterious atmosphere of the original with the power and scale of a full orchestra.
This is probably my most complex and virtuosic arrangement yet and the one that took me the longest to finish. I actually started writing an arrangement for Hedwig's Theme over 10 years ago when I was still in school, but back then I neither had the theoretical knowledge to write something as demanding as this nor did I have the technical ability to play the orchestral parts, especially the strings. So the score sat still on my hard drive for over a decade – sometimes I came back on it and worked on some parts, but I never was satisfied with the result. But a few months ago I decided to finally finish it since the Harry Potter soundtrack is one of my favorite movie soundtracks and I wanted to include it in my recent concerts.
For this version, I wanted to go beyond a traditional piano cover and create a performance that feels like the entire wizarding world is coming alive at the keyboard — magical, dramatic, and unapologetically epic. So this might be the closest you can get to John Williams's original orchestral version for a piano solo performance.
The arrangement is entirely my own, and sheet music is available on my website! I also want to shout out David Pasqualini for his incredible arrangement which inspired me a lot to write my own! Also, I'm very excited for the new Harry Potter series and I'm curious as to what Hans Zimmer is going to make out of John Williams's Harry Potter legacy.
