Antidepressants can help some women, but they're not risk-free and they won't fix a hormonal cause of mental health symptoms.

On my @drlouisenewsonpodcast this week, Rosie Moss, host of @widowed_af, told me that Prozac helped her function at university, though she suspects it mainly masked her undiagnosed neurodivergence, and the sertraline that followed left her feeling numb, with side effects like low libido, weight gain and sweating.

We're only now understanding the fuller risks of antidepressants, including an increased risk of osteoporosis and dementia - the scary thing is I was taught about their benefits far more than their harms. We can’t ignore this.
