Natalie Sykes turned to heroin and crack cocaine to mask pain from PMDD nobody had diagnosed.

In this week's clip from my @drlouisenewsonpodcast, Natalie Sykes @pmddneurodivergencealliance, founder of the PMDD & Neurodivergence Alliance, told me how her PMDD symptoms disappeared completely, because heroin was shutting down the exact pain her hormones couldn't.

Progesterone, estradiol and testosterone all act on the brain's opioid receptors, so when a woman is chronically short of them, the body will find relief somewhere which can often end in addiction. Recognising PMDD, autism and ADHD together means women get treated for the real cause with hormone treatments instead of being left to self-medicate alone.
