I was finally successful after changing out the fireboard to a piece off a Palm tree branch. It was unexpected so I didn't get it on video. So, of course, no one believes me, ha ha. I give it a try thinkin' I can do it again (this video), but unfortunately it didn't go so well. Now my hands are blistered up some more to where it'll be another couple days or so before I try again.
Anyway, here's my failed attempts. Each time I try I'm getting a better understanding on some aspect of the hand drill (ie. effort, technique, adequate materials, etc...) Now, if blisters weren't so painful...
