Guillows Aeronca New Motor Installation
Inn this video I will go over my installation of a new and more powerful brushless motor into my Guillows Aeronca Champion. In short, the Guillows Aeronca new motor installation and a great Guillows RC conversion for newbies.
Guillows produces a popular line of scale balsa model airplanes, primarily for free flight. These stick and tissue models over the years have proved to be very popular with modelers.
For RC conversion to an RC plane I have taken several of these Guillows kits and converted then to radio control flight. I have used in the past the ParkZone ultra-micro radio control "brick" than contained a receiver, two linear servos and an electronic speed control. This unit was exceptionally light weight but had limited power from its geared brushed motor and one cell lipo battery.
In this video I will use a Spektrum AR410 4 channel receiver, a 10 amp ESC, two micro servos and a two cell lipo battery. The challenge will be to fit all of this into the fuselage, keep the center of gravity within limits and hopefully not make the model too heavy.
Final weight of this Guillows balsa wood airplane increased from 3 to 4 ounces, the motor provided plenty of thrust and the airplane flew just great.
This is good news as I have a new baseline system for converting Guillows models to radio control flight.
