I put this together from items I found laying around the barn: About a foot-long bolt with an "L" on the end (no idea what it is, but it also had two nuts and two washers, which came in handy); about 20 feet of rope; an old 5-foot lead; the legs of a deer stand; the plastic post to a solar light.
I ran the rope through the pipes and tied knots so they couldn't slip too much. I tied the rope to the bolt between the two washers and nuts so the rope can spin freely. I hammered the bolt into the ground so the bottom washer is flush to the ground. I attached the old lead to the rope so I could hook it to the halter.
So far it's working like a charm!
Why? This horse was surrendered to our rescue in this condition - too weak to put with the herd and at risk of digestive failure and founder if he's allowed to graze for long periods of time. I rigged up the tether so he can safely graze an hour at a time, a few times a day, just until he's strong enough to hang with the other horses.
