Freely based on historical facts, Giuseppe Verdi and his librettist Eugène Scribe tell with LES VÊPRES SICILIENNES a story from the 13th century about the Sicilian uprising against the French occupiers in the form of a Grand opéra.
Director Olivier Py draws strong parallels here with the Algerian struggle for independence against the same great power and brings the events to a swift conclusion in his production.
