Trouble in the house of Storch
To this day, INTERMEZZO is one of Richard Strauss' lesser-known operas. One hundred years after its world premiere in Dresden, director Tobias Kratzer has set out to re-evaluate it as part of his Strauss cycle at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, showing that the mechanisms of a relationship between two people, which Strauss relentlessly reveals here, are still familiar in the 21st century.
Behind the seemingly harmless comedy, there is an artful game about feelings and a reflection on the interplay between the existence of an artist and their private life.
