e just received some sobering news that serves as a massive wake-up call for every gamer who relies solely on digital libraries. It is officially time to talk about why physical media is more important than ever. The News: Horizon Chase Turbo is Leaving Digital Stores
One of my absolute favorite arcade racing titles on the Nintendo Switch (and other platforms) is Horizon Chase Turbo. If you’ve watched the channel for a while, you know I’m a huge fan of this game and its sequel. Developed by the talented team at Aquiris, these games captured the soul of classic racers like Outrun and Rad Racer but modernized them for today's hardware.
However, the landscape changed when Aquiris was recently acquired by Epic Games. Following a massive announcement of over 1,000 layoffs at Epic, it has been confirmed: Horizon Chase Turbo will be delisted from the Nintendo Switch eShop, Xbox Store, and PlayStation Store on June 1st, 2026.
The "Download-Only" Trap
This situation perfectly underscores the danger of the "download-only" era. As of June 1st, if you don't already own this game and you want to experience one of the best arcade racers of the last decade, you simply won't be able to buy it digitally.
This brings up so many red flags for digital collectors:
Redownloading: If you bought it before the deadline, will you still be able to redownload it in two years? We aren't 100% sure.
DLC Access: What happens to the expansion packs and extra content you paid for?
Server Longevity: Eventually, every digital server goes offline. When that happens, your digital "collection" is effectively gone.
I’ve always said that while digital game key cards are a small step up from pure 100% digital downloads, they are still digital at their core. They rely on a storefront that can be turned off at the whim of a corporate merger or a bottom-line decision.
The Power of Physical Media
Looking at the copy of Horizon Chase Turbo behind me, I am incredibly thankful I have a physical, unopened copy in my collection. Because I have that disc/cartridge, I don't have to worry about Epic Games' layoffs, licensing issues, or server shutdowns. I own the code, and I can play it whenever I want.
A Final Recommendation
If you have any love for retro-style racers, BUY THIS GAME NOW. This is an epic arcade racer that I absolutely love. Before June 1st, 2026, get out there and grab it on your platform of choice. It is money well spent. If you can find a physical copy out in the wild or on the secondary market, jump on it before the "delisting tax" drives the prices through the roof. In the meantime you'll also be able to get it on the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 eShop, along with the Xbox and PlayStation Digital Stores.
My heart goes out to the team at Aquiris. Having worked with them a bit in the past, I know how much passion they put into their projects.
