If you are anything like me, making the massive jump from the original Nintendo Switch or the Switch OLED to the brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 has been an absolutely incredible experience. However, there is one major hardware challenge that has been driving me a little bit crazy lately: charging all the different controllers.
While the new Joy-Con 2 controllers look and feel pretty similar to the original Joy-Cons, the way they connect and charge is fundamentally different. The classic Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons use that traditional physical rail system to slide and lock into place for a charge. Meanwhile, the new Switch 2 Joy-Con 2s utilize a brand-new magnetic plug-in charging method. Because these two systems are completely different, they don't natively work together for charging. If you have a massive collection of original Joy-Cons for multiplayer sessions and new Joy-Con 2s for your current games, keeping them all juiced up has been a major headache.
Well, until now! The awesome team over at FastSnail sent us two brand-new charging docks that promise to solve this exact problem, allowing us to simultaneously charge both original Joy-Cons and the new Joy-Con 2s. Today, we are doing a full hands-on demo to see exactly how these work and if they are worth picking up for your setup.

First up, let's take a look at the 8-in-1 charging dock. Right on the box, it highlights that it is designed for both Switch and Switch 2 Joy-Pads. It claims to have eight charging slots, but upon unboxing, it operates a bit differently. I actually like to call this more of a "4x2" charger.
The design is brilliantly simple and incredibly elegant. To charge the original Switch controllers, you simply slide them down into the center slots using the familiar rail design. There is absolutely no gap or wiggle room, providing a very secure fit. Then, for your new Switch 2 controllers, they pop right into place using the magnetic connectors on the outside. So while you can't charge eight of the exact same controller at once, you can comfortably charge four original Joy-Cons and four Joy-Con 2s on the same unit.
