When we transitioned from the original Nintendo Switch to the Switch OLED, it was a remarkably painless process. Most of your favorite accessories—controllers, SD cards, and even the docks—were cross-compatible. You could swap your handhelds between docks without a second thought. However, with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, the game has officially changed.

The Switch 2 introduced specific SD card requirements and a new power profile. Because the Switch 2 requires a higher voltage output from its AC adapter compared to the original hardware, those classic docks we’ve used for years simply won't cut it. To make matters worse, the official Nintendo Switch 2 dock is a bit of a "honker"—it’s massive and not exactly travel-friendly.

Today, we are looking at a potential "ultimate" solution: the StartRC Gaming Switch 2 Docking Station. This teeny-tiny device promises universal compatibility across the Switch 2, Switch OLED, and the original Nintendo Switch. But does it actually deliver on performance, or are there hidden compromises? Let’s dive in to see if this tiny Nintendo Switch 2 (& OG SWITCH + OLED) Dock delivers?

📦 UNBOXING & FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The first thing that hits you is the form factor. This dock is roughly the size of a Google TV puck—significantly smaller than the official Nintendo footprint.

Portability: This is arguably the most portable dock we’ve tested for the Switch 2 era.

Build Quality: It features sturdy rubber feet on the bottom to prevent it from sliding off your desk or media console.

Connectivity: * RJ45 Ethernet Port: Essential for stable, lag-free online gaming.

Dual USB Ports: Perfect for connecting Pro Controllers (ignore the manual’s suggestion for a mouse and keyboard—this is for gaming!).

4K HD Output: Labeled specifically for 4K, ready to take advantage of the Switch 2's upgraded output capabilities.

USB-C Power Input: Remember to use a high-quality AC adapter (OEM recommended) to meet the Switch 2's power demands.

🕹️ PERFORMANCE TESTING: Mario Wonder & Street Fighter
We put this dock through its paces with some high-intensity testing.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Bellabel Park Expansion):
Testing a high-precision level like "Jump Jump Jump" is the perfect way to measure input lag and latency. In this expansion pack, you have to take constant leaps of faith where timing is everything.

The Good: No noticeable lag or latency. I was able to beat the level and grab the Wonder Seed on the first try using this dock!

The Observation: The image does appear slightly "washed out." The black levels aren't quite as deep or rich as the official dock, which might be a trade-off for the compact internal scaling hardware.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Edition:
Picking Ryu to test frame-perfect combos, I found the responsiveness to be spot-on. I managed a near-perfect round in 13 seconds with zero delay issues. If you’re a fighting game fan, the latency on this StartRC unit is definitely "RoXolid."

🔄 UNIVERSAL COMPATIBILITY: Switch OLED & Original Switch
One of the biggest claims from StartRC is that this works with the older hardware too. We tested it with the Switch OLED playing Punch-Out!! against Glass Joe.

Results: It works perfectly! While the black levels still felt a bit light (poor Glass Joe looked a little extra pasty), the responsiveness was excellent. You can easily adjust your TV's color settings to compensate for the white balance if it bothers you. It even handled Bluey: The Video Game without a hitch!

📉 THE VERDICT: Is it Worth It?
While we don't have a final retail price yet (as this is a very early release), the value proposition is strong.

Why It RoX:
- MSRP UNDER $40!
- Extreme portability
- Built-in Ethernet port for better online stability.
- True universal support for the entire Switch (non-Lite)family.
- Heat management was excellent during our extended play sessions.
- Did not add noticeable lag or latency

What Could Be Improved:
- Visual output is slightly washed out compared to the OEM dock.
- AC adapter sold separately
- Doesn't indicate if the USB ports are USB 2.0 or 3.0

Should You Buy One?
If you’re looking for a convenient, small-form-factor dock that replaces the giant plastic brick Nintendo provided, this is a very strong contender. It might even work with devices like the Steam Deck given the protocol, though we haven't tested that just yet! I think it's very capable for what it is, it worked well and didn't introduce lag. The colors were washed out, but then again if we're traveling I think I can live with it

👇 WHAT DO YOU THINK? 👇
Are you sticking with the official dock, or are you looking for a smaller travel solution? Does the slight color wash-out bother you, or is the portability worth the trade-off? Let me know in the comments below!
