Yes, this has definitely been done before, but it's so cool that anyone with a high-speed camera has got to try this at least once! A simple flick of a lighter is filmed at 300 and 600fps, then slowed-down again to 15 and 7.5 fps, giving a final playback rate of 1/20, 1/40, and 1/80 of realtime speed.
The sparks from the flint and the glowing gas cloud take on an almost ghost-like fireworks quality at these slow speeds, making for an artistic and scientifically interesting show!
