Here is the second installment of the 2016 El Nino season (2015/2016) GOES weather satellite infra-red still image time lapse sequences. While the southwestern USA is still experiencing drier than normal weather, the pacific northwest is getting more than its share of rain, resulting in more water than they can store... The good news is that some of this excess can be piped to southern California via the California Aquaduct System, hopefully easing the drought conditions a bit here.
Over 2000 still images were collected every 20 minutes for 2-months to make this video. Time lapse sequence made from original Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) still images, courtesy of NOAA.GOV (public domain data). This view shows the northern hemisphere (United States) in an infra-red wavelength that is sensitive to water vapor in Earth's atmosphere (light areas are moist and dark is more dry) which is good for showing where storms/rain may be more likely as well as being visible in both day and night.
The term "El Nino" refers to an event of warmer than normal pacific ocean surface temperatures along the equator and west coast of the Americas, which can't be seen in these images. However, the El Nino event is believed change and enhance storm patterns in the northeastern pacific, which may turn-up as more active than normal weather in the video.
