Testing out a GoPro Hero3+ with a new LED light rig in fairly shallow but really cold (21 foot depth and 57F degree) water off of Santa Cruz Island, California. Diving with side-mount, monkey-style tank for the first time, too, it was an interesting trip. There was a good bit of sea life to film, although it did seem like the Urchins were taking over and scouring the place clean of other lifeforms.

$88 Virus Fractal Animation Fly-Through (Mandelbulb 3D) V16202 This fractal structure reminded me of what a designer virus might look like when magnified many thousands of times - complete with an 88 signature stamped on its side! Mandelbulb 3D (A free software available online) took 4 days and 18 hours to render all 4000+ frames of this one on a dual core/quad thread 2.5gHz CPU machine. Entire Fractal structures like this one are created from a mathematical formula, and can look surprisingly life-like after color mapping and ray-tracing processes are finished. This rendering went one step further and included a depth of field process to provide a gentle focus bokeh on distant and close-up surfaces, resulting in a more realistic macro type of feel.
