What the world needs now is a Pragmatic Climate Reset. So says Michael Liebreich, investor, energy transition expert and the founder of Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
Driven by the potential catastrophic impacts posed by climate change people and the nations of the world have pushed to eliminate fossil fuels, move to 100% renewable energy and to get to net-zero by 2050.
These are laudable goals, but not all of them are plausible to achieve says Michael Liebreich in our wide ranging interview on his push for a major reset in how we tackle climate change.
He's NOT saying we abandon action on climate change, but that we change the narrative from one that is deeply polarizing to one that is inclusive, and recognizes the concerns of people for not only climate impacts but also their livlihoods, and wellbeing.
On the contrary Liebreich is saying we can take faster action, by being much more strategic in the actions we take and to stop our focus on something he calls absolutism - goals that that are founded in the real threat of climate change instead of their practicality.
