Substituting the LM235 sensor with the ATmega4809’s internal one …

In the previous video we’ve done some housekeeping regarding the identification of our power source (USB or 24V) and some blocking code associated with that. Today I want to revisit our temperature measurement – again. Sorry!

We start with a cautionary tale about over-engineering and losing sight of your goal. Then we eliminate five parts and replace them with the ATmega4809’s internal temperature sensor. We close with some basic thermal calculations.

00:00 Intro – temperature measurement again, sorry
00:44 History – a cautionary tale of over-engineering
05:46 Code 1 – recap of the old code for the external ADC
09:13 Code 2 – ATmega’s internal sensor & oversampling
14:08 Test 1 – 0.1°C resolution, but 0.5°C noise
15:00 Code 2 – adding a simple recursive average (IIR) filter
16:16 Test 2 – 0.1°C resolution, 0°C noise
18:02 Wrap-up – small project coming up, bye
