The British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares have reaffirmed their commitment to what they describe as the new chapter in relations opened by the Gibraltar treaty, two weeks after its provisional implementation began.
The meeting in Madrid was the first between the two ministers since Mr Miliband became Foreign Secretary, with Gibraltar among the issues discussed.
He said he wanted to come to Spain on one of his first visits as Foreign Secretary to emphasise the importance of the partnership between the two countries and their two progressive governments.
The ministers discussed international issues, including Ukraine and the Middle East, before signing a joint declaration on climate and energy cooperation.
