...I recently saw a post from my buddy Jarrod @armymace attempting a forearm bow drill where you basically substitute the bow for your arm.

...I've tried this before, & I can't remember where I got the idea, but I know @uh.its_nathan did this too. Anyway I thought I'd give it another go & try & suss out the mechanics of this.

...I've got to say it probably took me many more attempts than Jarrod before I realised the best way to get it running smoothly. The problem is you've only got a short stroke so to compensate for that I multi wrapped the spindle, to give me more surface area driving it. Then I angled my arm down. Angling the bow whilst drilling keeps the cord from rubbing against itself & gives you a lot smoother bowing action but you might need to do it on an elevated platform so you don't hit the ground when drilling.

...Anyway it is a viable method once you suss out the technical details though I'm sure your never really going to find yourself in a position where you need to substitute your arm for a piece of wood suitable for a bow. Still it's always good to practise different techniques & challenge yourself.
