...So here's an idea I've been pondering on for a while now. I've no idea what it's called & can't find anything similar online but I'm sure someone must of tried this. I made a short post on my stories asking what it should be called & the "fire wheel" was the most popular name that came up so I'm going with that for now.

...Anyway its probably the most overly engineered Heath Robinson contraption that's ever been made to get a friction fire going. I made it out of bits of old sets & other bits of wood I had lying around & it ended up a bit ramshackled. I spent quite a while chasing wobbles & things coming loose before I eventually got it running smoothly.

...It was actually looking promising I was getting good smoke & at one point I thought I'd got it, then disaster struck & the wheel simply snapped in half under the pressure. I'd made it from a split log of really well seasoned Malayan cherry that had been the ground & though I dried it out it was a little degraded but it was all I had at the time.

...So until I find a replacement wheel I'll have to wait. I feel confident this will work & it would be great to see someone else having a bash at this too & hopefully improve on it. I've already recognised a couple of things I'll adjust on my next attempt but meanwhile someone else sort this shit out please. I reckon @dug.north, @phyredojo or @dalemgumino are good contenders for it
