...Up on the mountain again this week doing my favourite type of fire lighting. Bow drill with pieces I gathered along the way

...I have no idea what the wood was but it passed the criteria test of being dry & just about soft enough to indent with my thumb nail. I used cordyline palm leaves braided together for the cord as these are plentiful up here & need hardly any processing. I did use my firestone for the bearing block but that's why I wear it & finding a natural bearing block wouldn't be a problem if I had to.

...This was the third attempt actually as the cord snapped & the spindle drifted in the notch then the second notch snapped out but I got there eventually.
