This is part 1 of how I fixed Google Voice Typing & Google Now, after the Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update. I am using the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113 WI-FI only.
If your mic, icon is not present on the virtual keyboard, or the Google Now app at the home screen, you may need to enable the Google Search app. It is found in, settings- application manager, all, section of the right hand pane. After enabling Google Search, the Google voice typing will show up in the Language and input section of the settings menu. Google Now, will also be available by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
The Google voice typing was available after doing the above, but it would not work properly. To make it work properly, I had to change the Google voice type language setting from automatic, to English. You can probably select any language, as long as it is not automatic.
Now voice typing works as it did in ICS. At least it did for me :)
