26. Q: What’s the rule for shoe care in men’s style?
When you get home, using a shoe shining cloth, clean and shine your shoes to restore the shine to the medallion in case you have scuffed the shoes. The shoes are then ready to go for the next occasion you want to wear them. Then place the shoes in cedar shoe trees to let them dry out and retain their shape. Rotating shoes every day is important too, this allows them to recover between wears.
👔 The 4 Vs of Executive Presence:
Visual - Do I look prepared, credible and appropriate for the situation?
Vocal - Does my voice tone sound calm and confident?
Verbal - Are my comments clear, concise and beneficial?
Value - Am I making a useful difference to the people and business around me?

Today’s meetings: Lunch at the Tokyo American Club Nihombashi with Norman Tweeboom CEO of Bloomberg Japan, previous guest #221 on my podcast Japan's Top Business Interviews
The impression I wanted to create: Norman is one of the most elegantly dressed men in Tokyo and he dresses with intention, so the pressure was on to keep up with him.
The Impression Construction Elements
Suit: Custom blue suit with a subtle window pane pattern, notch lapels, Barchetta breast pocket, 35mm double cuffs, flap pockets, side vents. It was raining heavily today so I gave up on wearing a light coloured suit, which will show the rainspots.
Shirt: Geoffrey Beene New York 1963 white shirt with English Cuffs. Abbeyhorn Holme 1749 horn collars stays from Kirby Allison Dallas 2007.
Tie: Fermo Fossati Binago 1871 alternating Shantung silk and grenadine striped burgundy tie in a Windsor knot.
Cufflinks: Tachikawa Imari porcelain Arita 1983 burgundy cufflinks, a gift from my wife.
Pocket Square: Kirby Allison Dallas 2007 Sovereign Grade White/Burgundy and Teal quadrant pocketsquare in a reverse puff. Stabiliser from Kuska Fabrics Kyoto 1936.
Watch: Vintage 37mm rectangular steel case Longines Saint-Imier 1832 S30 EFCo which has a black face on the dial and a steel strap.
Fragrance: Armani Mania Georgio Armani Milano 1996
👞 High Shine Shoes: The high shine shoes were my black TLB Mallorca 1946 Oxfords with a Goya last, punched toe cap, French boxcalf leather from the D'Annonay Tannery 1838.
✨ Today’s Featured Detail: The alternating Grenadine and Shantung silk stripes on the burgundy tie. This is a unique combination but very subtle. Most men wouldn't get this tie silk combination. But those who know what they are doing will appreciate it and be part of our Club.
One Rule to Remember: Don't try to please the great unwashed. Dress with intention and understand that the key people will be keeping up with you.
