Casey FitzRandolph, the 2002 Olympic Gold Medalist in the 500m speed skating competition, gave us a peak into the dedication and focus required to become a competitive champion on the world stage. While talent and ability can be important, belief in yourself and perseverance in doing the work of continuously training at a high level is most determinant of success. Casey started competing at the age of 4 and progressed through youth and adult world championships, culminating in the Olympics in 2002 and 2006. His success required training almost year-round with the best of the best in the speed skating world. The same focus and dedication apply to the elite competitors we see in the Olympics today.
