The song uses lines of an Anglo-Saxon healing charm known as “For a Sudden Stitch” (“Wið fǣrstice”), dated around late 10th or first half of the 11th century
It was believed that sudden twinges of localised pain were the doing of elves who shot you with an arrow or spear
I am far from proficient in Anglo-Saxon, and I’m particularly unsure about the transcription in Futhorc. So, if anyone has any suggestions or corrections or general points to raise about what I wrote, please do let me know!
