Old Guns is a pretty simple quest to complete and mostly involves following a few check markers and a bit of dialogue. There are some mines to avoid (or walk through if you have the dense armor modification) and a sentry bot to destroy. I'd recommend a combat shotgun against the sentry bot. Take out it's arms and it'll run at you to explode. You should be able to kill it before it reaches you though. Or, alternatively, leave it's mini-gun, but destroy its missile launcher. It'll be much more manageable that way. At the end you'll get the schematics for artillery which is great for defending settlements.
