For decades, Route 66 was the main pathway through the high desert between Victorville and Barstow, California. The highway traveled through one of the harshest areas of the state, but still a number of towns and businesses sprung up.
After Route 66 was bypassed in this area in 1964, the area went into decline. A lot of the once thriving businesses and communities are now abandoned. But that doesn't mean there isn't a lot to see on this stretch of Route 66. Quite a bit is packed into this nearly 40 mile segment of the old highway.
In this video we explore Route 66 between Victorville and Barstow, talk about some of the lost and forgotten history along the way, and find a few places that are still thriving.
