We visted the stunning Wemyss Bay Rail Station, considered one of Scotland's finest, to get the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry to the Isle of Bute. The ferry lands in Rothesay and the City Sightseeing Hop on Hop off bus starts just in front of the ferry port. The open top bus has seven stops, but we rode around the 1 hour and 30 minute tour. During the tour, we learned a lot of history of the island, saw important buildings like Mount Stuart House, several aninals like cows, sheep and alpacas and passed by sandy and rocky beaches while seeing breathtaking scenery including the close-by island of Arran and the Kintyre Peninsula in the distance. It is a beautiful, informative and fun way to spend a day on the island, especially if you don't have a car.
