From Reykjavik, we took a Golden Circle Tour. The Golden Circle has so many famous and incredible attractions, it is an amazing day trip from the capital. It is a fantastic tour and highly recommended. From erupting Geysers, Icelandic Horses, Waterfalls and a UNESCO World Heritage National Park, this is a can't miss day!
Highlights Included -
-Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with both historical and geological importance, the place where Iceland became a republic, where the first parliament in the word began, the church where Iceland became a Christian country, home of Iceland's largest lake and a place where you can walk between two continental plates, the Eurasion and North American plates.
-Laugarvatn Lake, a geothermal area that is used by locals to bake bread in the ground.
-The Geysir geothermal area with Stokkur, Litli and Geysir geysers, mudpots and bubbling pools. We saw a Stokkur Geyser eruption.
-Gullfoss Waterfall, the most famous in Iceland.
-Faxafoss or Faxi Waterfall, so clean you can drink from it.
-Kerid Crater Lake with red walkways and turquoise waters.
-We stopped to meet some Icelandic horses
-A town of greenhouses using geothermal power from which Iceland grows most of its own fruit.
