Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys warned that Europe must move faster and harder on sanctions against Russia.
Speaking at the Informal Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers — Gymnich in Druids Glen, County Wicklow, Ireland, Budrys said EU countries had promised before the 20th and 21st sanctions packages that they would do better — but failed to go far enough.
He said Europe must now prepare for the 22nd sanctions package, but must not wait for it before taking action.
Budrys called for individual sanctions to be prolonged without political delisting and expanded into sectors that have been left behind.
He also argued that the EU must target Russia’s most important economic pressure points — especially the energy sector.
His message was blunt: if Europe wants Moscow to understand that the EU is serious, sanctions must hit where Russia really feels the cost.
