For the first time since their introduction in 1949, 45 rpm discs begin to outsell standard 78s.
ETTORE STRATTA
Conductor/producer Ettore Stratta built a recording career out of recasting various brands of popular music in symphonic-style orchestral arrangements. Sometimes that meant dabbling in Latin American music (as with Symphonic Boleros, Symphonic Tango, and Symphonic Bossa Nova) and sometimes that meant choosing compatible standards from the jazz and pop worlds to create records with consistent moods (as with A Sentimental Journey and As Time Goes By: Great Love Songs of the 20th Century). He also did more specific collections, including a tribute to sci-fi film soundtracks (Music From the Galaxies) and, oddly enough, to Elvis Presley (Symphonic Elvis, recorded -- of course -- with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra). Stratta has recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Fantasy Strings.
FLAMINGO
"Flamingo" (1940) is a popular song and jazz standard written by Ted Grouya and Edmund Anderson and first performed by Herb Jeffries and Duke Ellington. Other notable versions were recorded by Earl Bostic in 1951, who hit number one on the R&B chart, and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass on the album S.R.O. (1966).

Flamboyant arrangement of the 1940's standard written by Ted Grouya which has been performed by an array of artists since its publication. Being one of my "all time favourites" this little gem could not be forgotten on this channel obviously ....
