Hello neighbors, it's Brad here from etrailer. And today we are taking a look and installing the Van Windows Direct half-sliding bunk window for your van. Now this is going to be a passenger and driver's side specific, purely based on the way that the window opens and closes, but what the name implies, this is going to allow you to put a window on your van. So if you're turning something like this 2021 Ford Transit T-350 into a camper like our neighbor's doing, having some natural light is really nice. And also you have a screen so you can slide that open, keep the bugs out, but also get a little bit of air and some light in in the process. The size of these windows really makes it nice for a bed area.
So in fact, our neighbors they're going to later have their bed on this back area. And this works out really well because your bed platform, this is going to be right where you want it to be, getting some airflow in. You know, at night they have a Maxxfan Air. So the combination of those two means that air is going to be able to move through here. So even without an A/C, it's going to be plenty comfortable in here.
And really when it comes to converting something like a transit into a camper, space is going to come down to a premium. You're really going to be stacking a lot of different things. You're going to have cabinet storage. So having a large window isn't really a necessity, but something small like this to get that airflow. But also a little bit of extra natural light in here so during the day you know, you don't have to have your lights on all the time is really nice.
And the fact that these are tinted means that it's also going to keep heat down to a minimum and you're going to have a little bit of privacy with that as well. So with the window slid back, again, you can get a little bit more light in because the tint is 17%. So if you're used to car window tint, generally anything normally darker than 20% means that it's illegal but really does a good job of having privacy. On a window like this, it doesn't matter. So 17% is going to give you lots of privacy.
What's nice too is these are low profile, so they really don't take up a whole lot of space once installed. They maybe stick out, I don't know, less than an inch, I would say. So really not any more than some of the webbing that's here already. Now, what's really nice too is there's no adhesives that you have to use or any urethane or RTV or any sealants. This really uses a compression fitting of foam. So once you cut it out, you'll put your outside window and then you have this frame that tightens it all up. And that's generally how an A/C unit works on the rooftops of RVs. And that compression means that it's going to keep all of that water out. Now there are drains also located on here. So if water was to fall into this channel, it all drains out, so you don't need to worry about that pooling up. We took a hose of ours once it was installed and we didn't have any leaks. So overall, it's a fairly easy installation. Now, with that being said, you are going to be cutting a large hole in the side of your van. And if it's something that you're not comfortable doing, I totally understand. It's a little bit scary at first, but honestly, I would say you could probably knock this out in about an hour if you had all the right tools and if you're feeling pretty comfortable about doing it all. Now I would recommend an extra set of hands because as you start to put this unit in and tighten it down, having someone holding that back end really helps out a lot, especially on the walls that can be a little bit flimsy. And really when it comes to mounting it up, you can choose a lot of different spots. So a lot of it comes down to just making sure you have the spot set up that you want, you've measured it out, and you're happy with that.
