Hi, I'm Daniel with etrailer, and today we're going to take a look at and I'm going to show you install the Blue Ox Base Plate on our 2026 Ford Bronco. Ford Broncos are super popular flat towable vehicles, and I'll go over the five main components you're going to need in order to get your flat tow setup started. We're going to start here at the vehicle. It's going to be our base plate. We're going to have your tow bar, you're going to have your braking system, your safety cables, and your diode wiring. Some of the things I recommend for the Bronco specifically is going to be a charge line kit.
This isn't required, but it's really nice to have because it'll give you a trickle charge while you're traveling down the road so you don't ride to the campsite with your towed vehicle's battery dead. Now, the other thing is going to be a stoplight switch kit, and that's going to be for some of your braking systems in order for you to determine if this is breaking behind your motor home while you're driving. But in this video, we are going to be focusing on the base plate, and that's just going to connect to your vehicle frame, giving you an attachment point for your tow bar. These are going to work really well with our neighbor's tow bar. He already had a Blue Ox, so it fit into the attachment points.
And this is going to work with your CURT tow bars as well, but if you're getting it from scratch, I would recommend just staying with your Blue Ox or your CURT. But if you already have maybe a Roadmaster tow bar, there is adapters available that you can get this to work. Really like this base plate. I like how they give you attachment points for your safety cables right down below on this tab. And the other thing that is really nice is they give you a bracket for your six-pole plug.
A lot of times, kits, they don't provide this and you're going to have to left your own devices of where to mount this, but they give a really nice bracket and it's tucked away. And they also give you a bracket for your breakaway switch, which is really awesome. And when it's not attached, they give you a nylock nut so you don't have to tighten that all the way. You can just swivel this out of the way so it's not sticking out here. After you've got your base plate installed, you may need a high-low adapter to make everything level to your motor home.
So you want your tow bar to be as level as possible. You want this to be within three inches plus or minus. So what you have to do is take a measurement from the ground to the center of your base plate. I'll give you ours and ours is about 26 and 1/2. So yours might be a little different. We do have the Bronco Raptor and your tire size might be different as well. So definitely measure yours. And then you want to come over to your motor home, get that same measurement from the ground to the center of your hitch. And then you just take the difference and that's the size high-low adapter you need. Now the most important part is taking this off and how easy it is so you can go and have fun. Just want to pull that pin right out of there, put that back so we don't lose it. (metal clanking) Take off all of our other components. And finally, that attachment point, you just pull this, give it a rotate and that'll come right out and you can store this wherever you like. This is what your base plate's going to look like when you're detached from your motor home, just when you're driving around like normal. They look really good. You already have a lot of attachment points on your Bronco, so it looks like it belongs there. They are going to replace your recovery loops right where those openings are so it doesn't look out of place. Some people don't like the fact that you're getting rid of those recovery loops, but most base plates, you're going to have to put them where your recovery loops are. Now if you are somebody who's wanting to take your Bronco out off-roading, we do have winch options you may want to look into. Overall, this brace plate is going to work great for your Ford Bronco.
