Opening green coffee bags is a regular part of a roaster's day. Today I knew I had a lot to roast, so I took a video opening every bag. Then one of my Instagram followers suggested I set the clips to intense, cinematic, dramatic music. So I did. And honestly, it's simultaneously strangely satisfying and absurdly hilarious.
Many people have told me they have trouble opening their green coffee bags so smoothly, but there's an easy trick/technique that works (almost) every time. Here it is:
Both sides of the bag have a seam - one side has one straight string, the other side has interlocking loops. When you're looking at the side with the loops, follow the string TO THE LEFT and cut the slack off. Then flip to the side with one string, tease the end of the singular string out, and pull! If there are no knots or other strings twisted in, it'll come right off.
In this video, the first bag gave me trouble because it was a double string. However, you can still use the same technique - you just have to pull both strings at the same time.
