This issue is so complex and I couldn’t cover everything in a 5min spot on live television… but I did my best for my first time on live tv!
One thing I mentioned briefly but want to reiterate is the impact of CLIMATE CHANGE on coffee production. Weather patterns that used to be predictable have become erratic, which is decreasing coffee production volumes almost across the board. And there’s no end in sight to this climatic volatility.
So yes, consumers should get used to paying more and especially search out local independent roasters with direct trade relationships with farmers - bonus points for price transparency.
And roasters, pay coffee farmers fairly (which means more). Source directly so you know exactly where your money is going, and so you can build a more resilient supply chain for your business.
