Description of “ Entertainment and the Wrath of God.” On April 8th, 2025 at 12:44 a.m. in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republican, the roof of a popular night club, Jet Set, collapsed while people were being entertained by the famous merengue musician Rubby Perez. 225 people died and many were famous celebrities. Look up merengue music: “Merengue music is indeed known for its sensual and suggestive nature, and it is commonly believed that its early roots were in brothels. The term "perico ripiao," meaning "ripped parrot," is often associated with a brothel where merengue music supposedly originated. While the music was initially considered crude and immoral, it evolved and became a prominent part of Dominican culture, playing a role in social gatherings and celebrations.”
People today are generally afraid to believe this could be a judgement of God on their wicked behavior. But in the United States in 1811 this was not the case. In Richmond, Virginia on December 26, 600 people were in the theatre when it caught on fire. Many community leaders died. The Governor of Virginia, the leading Bank president, leading attorney of the commonwealth etc. plus 72 others perished. All of America plunged into mourning. Some “young Gentlemen” wrote a leading minister in New York city urging him to do a sermon on the event. He agreed as long as he could talk on the evils of theatre. They agreed. His sermon went into long detail why the Christian church and pagans have always considered theatre to be extremely evil and corrupting to individuals and society.
