I like my photo editing to be quick and efficient which is why I prefer to not only try and capture a scene in great conditions but to also be clear about my intentions and reasons for the photograph in the capture stage. Post processing in Adobe Lightroom then becomes about reinforcing my initial thoughts and feelings about the scene. In this video I talk briefly about one particular technique which I use to help me be more objective about the balance throughout the composition. I can't say that it always makes a difference but sometimes it's a huge help. Overall though, small adjustments to a well executed photograph is all that is needed for pleasing results. I first saw this technique being used by Joe Cornish, so my thanks to him!
