In 2001 a trailer for Duke Nukem Forever (DNF) tantalized fans of Duke Nukem 3D with a sequel that would never come. Sure, we eventually got a Duke Nukem Forever, but it wasn't THE Duke Nukem Forever we were shown and promised. Well, thankfully, we have plenty of fans who decided that they needed to make it right, and so, a plethora of Duke Nukem Forever projects emerged to offer their interpretation of that 2001 trailer, from the actual Duke Nukem Forever Fan Expansion pack, to the actual restoration project using the leaked 2001 DNF source code. Well now, its 2023 and William Gee has unleashed his take on the Lady Killer Casino from the 2001 trailer in a detail filled user map that I'm eager to take a gamble on. This map will have a ton of custom assets, which is different from the stock heavy ones we have been playing, but it will be a joy to see what this author put together with his *Reads notes* 20 YEARS OF DUKE MAPPING EXPERIENCE!
Oh, and since we had extra time today, we tackled his four-episode The Abyss, which is his take on the map with the same name, from the original Duke Nukem 3D.
What we do in these streams is showcase user created content to show what kind of passion and creativity this niche community has crafted to show others what Duke Nukem 3D has to offer for any Retro Boom Shooter FPS lovers, or even old Duke Fans (like myself) who may have not dipped their toes into the user content world. Additionally, we take a look at how these 2.5D games create their 3D world from a level design perspective as I try to learn from those who came before me since I'm currently making a map of my own for Duke Nukem 3D using Mapster32, the included level editor for eDuke32.
