Commander Dan Shelton with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) provided details about a tragic motor vehicle accident that resulted in the deaths of a man and his one-year-old child.
The incident occurred on May 16, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. on Baymeadows Road near San Jose Boulevard. The preliminary investigation revealed a white man in his mid to late 30s was crossing the street with his one-year-old son when they were struck by an older model Honda Civic traveling eastbound on Baymeadows Road.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the man and his child deceased.
The driver of the Honda Civic was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
JSO's Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is conducting a thorough investigation.
