Nordic curls are an amazing exercise for strengthening the knee flexion function of the hamstrings, especially in that all important lengthened position.
In terms of athleticism they will increase your speed ceiling a little bit, but more importantly they have been proven to reduce the incidence of hamstring strains!
BUT BE CAREFUL WITH THEM!
This exercise puts an IMMENSE amount of stress through those distal hamstring tendons, and if you don't acclimate yourself accordingly you may very well find yourself with a painful case of lingering tendinopathy on the backside of your knees.
Even if you are strong enough to perform clean, full Nordic curls your tendons may still not be adequately prepared to handle the rigors of doing so consistently. So be sure to break yourself in properly.
Start with regressions, build up your work capacity and tissue tolerance over the course of several months, and then go hard with full Nordic curls after that!
