Playthrough of the arcade mode with Dragon Knight. This game is a fighting game spinoff of the Dungeon Fighter series, which I’m completely clueless about since I’ve never played any of them. All I know is this was developed by Arc System Works and it looks really nice.
In one way this plays like Art of Fighting -whenever you use special moves, your mana gauge depletes, and if the gauge gets to zero you won’t be able to use special moves. However unlike in Art of Fighting, the gauge here charges up by itself and charges really quickly. There are two ways to do special moves, you can either do the usual quarter circle style inputs or use simplified inputs instead, such as just holding right and pressing a button. The difference is that if you use the simple inputs, your mana gauge doesn’t charge back up as quickly.
This has something I wasn’t expecting: a really cheap boss. I haven’t encountered one of these in a modern fighting game for a while, but Lost Warrior is definitely up there with some of SNK’s best. What makes him so dangerous is his high damage output, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him miss with his super move. One disappointment is the arcade mode has no endings, once you beat the boss it’s back to the main menu and that’s it. Every character does have a separate story mode though.
