Iconic Deus Ex Machinas in Cartoons (the Lion Turtle in Avatar, the Magic Button in Dragon Ball Super, David Hasselhoff's Rescue in The SpongeBob)
Starting off we have the Lion Turtle in Avatar The Last Airbender. Aang realized his only option to save the world is to kill Fire Lord Ozai which goes against his pacifism. However, The Lion Turtle shows up to touch Aang's head and heart and instantly give him ‘Energybending’ without any prior training and simply take away Ozai’s firebending rather than kill him.
Up next is The Magic Button in the Zumasu arc of Dragon Ball Super. Zamasu tries to assimilate the whole universe and mops the floor with Goku and his friends. Thankfully Goku finds a button in his pocket which spawns Dragon Ball’s Multiversal Creator Zeno in their vicinity who instantly defeats Zumasu, saving everyone.
Next up is David Hasselhoff in the SpongeBob Squarepants Movie. When SpongeBob & Patrick’s only way back to Bikini Bottom was nullified, it was Hasselhoff who showed up out of nowhere in style to help our heroes return home. Ya done good Hasselhoff, ya done good.
And finally we have one of the most iconic, The Claw from Toy Story 3. When the toys are about to face their fiery doom in the incinerator, the aliens, who were separated from the gang prior, use an actual claw machine to rescue the toys. The aliens saved their lives and the toys are eternally grateful.
